Stories of Strength
“My name Vuyo Nkosi and I suffer from both disability eye vision and deaf disability. SEC foundation has been a great support to my progress and ensuring that the help I get assist me with education. “The programmes that the SEC Foundations runs, are focused on many communities we reach out to even rural areas and the northwest province. With the support of caring Board members and directors donating from their savings, has helped us to establish many programmes whilst we seek opportunities and other funders to assist us in this journey.
How blind and slightly vision impaired children enjoy outdoor activities, our passion is to help them grow and show them to be normal like any other children, this helps with their mental strength and being able to look forward to the next day at school.
Experiencing Compassion, Care,
and Hope at Sithandiwe Disability
Care Centre
Mrs. Lucy graciously gave us a tour of their spacious
facility, which shelters 37 children, each with unique needs
and abilities. Among them are children with blindness,
autism, and cerebral palsy (CP). Seeing their resilience
and the unwavering dedication of the staff was nothing
short of inspiring.
Our visit was fueled by the desire to bring joy and spread
cheer this festive season. To that end, we brought
Christmas buckets filled with delicious food and snacks, a
small gesture to make their holidays brighter. Additionally,
with guidance from Mrs. Lucy, we learned of their need for
a microwave to help with warming food; something they
often struggled with. We were delighted to provide one,
knowing it would make a tangible difference in their daily
lives.
Programs
It is crucial that specialized schools and resource centers are developed and strengthened to accommodate the blind, visually impaired. Our committee will also support learners who can cope in mainstream schools, provided that adequate assistance is provided by education authorities and that the parents of the learners have made informed decisions. The Education Committee will continue to oversee the education and training of learners, as it is their constitutional right. Part of our support is to endorse in the school programs / activities being that we provide the schools with whatever needs that are required to ensure these children and adults are supported in their shortfalls
Disability Support Programs
The Disability Support Program (DSP) serves children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities, long-term mental illness and physical disabilities in a range of community-based, residential and vocational/day programs. These are voluntary programs designed to support people at various stages of their development and independence.
Education Enrichment Program
The arts can influence and shape youths development on several levels , academically, socially and emotionally. Involvement in the arts encourages self-expression tapping into their inventiveness and creativity and is a fun outlet that helps positively stimulate and motivate youth. Arts Education as Enrichment program includes poetry, drama, music and dance used as a platform for self-expression and academic education in general.
Eradication Of Poverty
Our food donation program provides an alternative to discarding surplus wholesome food by linking food service donors with surplus food to local hunger relief agencies. We do this by creating and maintaining an efficient communication and reporting network that links available sources of food to those in need through these existing charitable organizations.
